Double Glazing - Window Replacement - Double Glazing Repairs
Why do I get misting up or condensation between the glass panes?
When double glazing is manufactured, the two panes of glass are factory sealed together with a spacer bar between them. Misting occurs when this seal fails allowing air to enter the gap between the panes of glass. As the air contains moisture, it will eventually condense on the cold outer sheet of glass causing it to mist up. Although the sealed unit is made with a dessicant in it to absorb moisture, this will eventually saturate and allow moisture to condense on the glass.
There isn't a cure for this unfortunately - the failed unit will need to be replaced. Bear in mind when asking for quotes, that the cost should reflect whether the just the glazing unit or the whole window including the frame is being replaced.
The lifetime of a properly designed, manufactured and installed sealed unit should be between 25-30 years, so in the event of a premature failure, don't forget to check if the window is still under guarantee.
